A Second Offering:  Baker River Invertebrates Workshop

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the June 21 workshop on Baker River invertebrates must be cancelled until further notice.

The Rumney Natural Resources Network will again offer a workshop to assess the health of insect life in the Baker River in Rumney.  Led by Rumney resident and PSU Professor Emeritus Larry Cushman, we will gather, categorize, and count aquatic insects in a piece of the Baker River Participants will meet at 1 PM on Saturday, June 21, rain date: 1 PM, Sunday, June 22.  We will be wading on rocky river bottom, so wear appropriate footwear.
Organized by the Rumney Natural Resources Committee, an outgrowth of last year’s Rumney Profile meetings, this workshop was well-received by the thirteen hearty souls who participated in it last July at the NH rest area in Rumney.  This year’s outing will be held at Rumney’s Baker River lot, which the town purchased last year.  Follow Rte 25 a short distance west past the rest area; there will be signs for parking either along the road off the paved portion or down a short drive into the beginning of the field where the workshop will begin.  Families with kids welcome.  No dogs, please, as late ground-nesting birds may be present.

The Rumney Natural Resources Network (RNRN) has been conducting educational tours/workshops to highlight the value of natural resources to be found in the town.  RNRN is a collaboration of the Rumney Natural Resources and the Working Environment Committee - an outgrowth of the May 2007 Rumney Profile meetings - which co-ordinates the tours; the USNH Cooperative Extension; the Rumney Conservation Commission; the Baker River Watershed Association; and HHP, a Henniker forest products company with large holdings in Rumney.
